The warrior Yoshitaka ( よしたか)  was determined to avenge the death of his father Kiso Yoshinaka (木曽義仲 or きそよしなか). The ghost of a yamabushi (山伏 or やまぶし) in the form of a giant rat assisted him, but in the end Yoshitaka failed and was beheaded.

Large detail for better viewing. The colors of this detail are true. This one was done with a scan at a fairly high resolution. The smaller image of the whole print was taken with a digital camera in natural lighting.
