WE ARE MAKING AN EXCEPTION

WITH THIS ENTRY

On May 3, 2005 an anonymous contributor to our site sent me an e-mail  with an attachment which showed the shop of the publisher Tsuruya Kiemon from an 1833 book in 20 volumes called Edo meisho zu-e (Famous Views of Edo). Hasegawa Settan is the artist. Although we have listed this publisher among the prints we have already handled we felt that it was important to display it here so you can compare it to the interior of the shop of Tsuta-ya Jūzaburō shown in the section immediately above this one.

This is a correction from a previous mistake ascribing this image

to Toyokuni III. We have our correspondent J. Z. for catching

this error. It also helps to know that it dates from 1863.

The publisher's seal is for Kakumotoya Kinjirō.
