"Fujiokaya Keijirō is one of the few publishers about whom detailed information is available. The reason for this lies in the family records published by his successors. [¶] Fujiokaya Keijirō I (1823-1883) was the younger brother of the publisher Fujiokaya Hikotarō. [See the publisher's entry above this one.] Fujiokaya Keijirō started in the publishing business around 1843 with warrior prints by Kuniyoshi.... He managed to get all three leading Utagawa artists working for him from the start and they designed prints as well as book illustrations." The business under the leadership was Keijirō IV was destroyed in the Great Kantō quake of September 1, 1923.
